What the Cool Kids are Wearin'

Wow! This blogging stuff is great. I post a picture of some Longhorn clothes and - poof! - suddenly our baby boy gets a Longhorn outfit.

Thanks to Aunt Destree and Uncle Wes for the very nice gift! Britnee also says "thanks" in her best imitation of the baby's voice.

Kick Me

After a couple weeks of hearing Britnee telling me how much the baby was moving around (mostly early afternoon and late evening), I was finally able to feel an actual kick. It took a few days of trying to time it right, with a couple of false alarms (just her stomach rumbling), but there was no doubt when the actual kick happened. Very exciting!

It might become old news as he kicks more and more in the coming weeks, but it sure is cool now.

Dad's Ready!

It's not too early to start thinking about the important things like Longhorn football and other sports, is it???

It's a . . . BOY!!!

Well, we found out today that we are going to have a baby boy! We are both very excited! He weighs about 13 ounces and is about 6 days ahead of schedule. During the first part of the sonogram, he was curled into a little ball, but toward the end, he was showing off for us. He even pointed his little finger at us. The sonogram picture isn't very good, but you can see a profile of his tiny face. We haven't settled on a name yet but will be sure to let everyone know as soon as we do.

Welcome!

Welcome to our family blog. We hope to keep our friends and family updated on the impending arrival of our baby in March!

Check out the back-dated blog entries below to see some sonogram pictures from the first trimester.

We will find out the gender on Tuesday, November 6th. Britnee will be 20 weeks at that point - half-way there!

The baby is kicking up a storm - mostly after lunch and just before bedtime. Still not kicking quite strong enough for Kelly to feel though.

Baby's Second Picture

The baby is gonna be HUGE! From about ¼ inch to about 2 inches in a little over 4 weeks. At this rate, we’re gonna have a basketball player! (Fat chance given Dad's genes)

Here is another picture from the second sonogram done this morning. They were basically testing for heart rate and some genetic markers (Down’s Syndrome, etc.). Everything looks great. 168 beats per minute.

And best yet – we saw the baby move…. a lot! Although you can’t tell from the pictures, it would kind of look almost like a hiccup where the baby’s whole body would jump up about half an inch from where it’s resting in the pictures. That was the most exciting thing for both of us. We didn’t really expect to see movement this early.

Also, before the doctor began the sonogram, she asked whether we wanted to know the gender if she could tell. I’m okay either way, and Britnee has been putting up a good show that maybe she could wait until the birth. But I swear it took about a millisecond for Britnee to say “yes!” when the doctor asked. Unfortunately, the doctor couldn’t get a good angle to tell for sure and she said she didn’t want to say anything if she wasn’t sure. So still no idea on that front – although I expect we’ll be finding out in 2 months at the next sonogram.

She’s officially at 11 weeks plus 1 day as of today. But the doctor said that the baby seems to be about 5 days ahead of schedule right now. Doesn’t change the official due date of March 24th though.

Baby's First Picture

All clear on the baby front! Britnee has been checked out and there are no problems other than a pretty nasty case of morning sickness.

Here’s the first sonogram. If you look at the two “+” signs to the left of the picture, that is the full extent of the baby (they call it the “Crown to Rump” measurement because they don’t yet know which is which). Baby is currently 5.4 mm, which is a little less than a quarter inch. Britnee is 6 weeks and 3 days along, with a revised due date of March 24, 2008 – and that due date will probably be official throughout the pregnancy.
